Melting & Furnace Operations
Precise melting and metal preparation processes to ensure consistent chemistry and casting quality.

Service overview
Melting and Furnace Operations
Melting and Furnace Operations sit at the heart of the casting process. At AFM, we operate modern furnace systems, including a half-tonne crucible-lined furnace for aluminium, to melt and prepare metal to exact temperature and chemical composition specifications before pouring, because the quality of the melt directly determines the quality of the final casting.
Our furnace operators are experienced in managing the full melting cycle, including charge calculation, temperature control, slag removal and pre-pour treatment. Each melt is prepared to meet the specific requirements of the alloy being cast, ensuring that mechanical properties and chemical composition fall within the required range before any pour takes place.
Our furnaces and measuring equipment are calibrated on a set schedule, so temperature and composition readings stay accurate and reliable. Consistency in the melt means consistency in the casting. At AFM, we don't cut corners at the furnace.
01
Temperature Precision Control
Furnace temperatures are closely monitored and controlled throughout the melting cycle to ensure optimal pouring conditions and metal integrity.
02
Charge Calculation & Planning
Each melt charge is carefully calculated to achieve the target alloy composition efficiently and with minimal material waste.
03
Pre-Pour Metal Treatment
Metal is treated prior to pouring, including inoculation and deslagging, to improve mechanical properties and reduce the risk of casting defects.
04
Multiple Alloy Capability
Our furnace operations handle a range of ferrous alloys and aluminium, supporting diverse customer requirements across different material grades.
