Surface Preparation
Professional surface preparation to clean, condition and prime castings for coating, inspection or end use.

Service overview
Surface Preparation
Surface preparation is the process of cleaning and conditioning the surface of finished castings to remove sand, scale, oxide layers and other contaminants, producing a clean, consistent surface ready for its next application, whether that is painting, coating, further inspection or direct use.
At AFM, surface preparation is treated as an important quality step. A properly prepared surface improves coating adhesion, enables accurate visual and dimensional inspection, and ensures the component presents and performs correctly in its end-use environment.
Our surface preparation processes are selected based on the component material, geometry and the customer's downstream requirements, ensuring the right result for every application.
01
Shot Blasting
Shot blasting effectively cleans casting surfaces and removes sand, scale and oxides while imparting a uniform surface profile that improves coating adhesion.
02
Sand & Scale Removal
All residual moulding sand, surface scale and oxide contamination is thoroughly removed before components proceed to inspection or finishing.
03
Improved Coating Adhesion
Properly prepared surfaces ensure paint, primer and protective coatings bond effectively, extending the service life of the finished component.
04
Pre-Inspection Readiness
Surface preparation ensures all features are clean and clearly visible for dimensional and visual inspection, supporting accurate and complete quality assessment.
